The Portal
Playa Vista, CA

The Portal is an elaborate entryway to a 30,000 SF medial office in Playa Vista. Designed by SLAM Architects, the Portal’s 32 unique triangular facets reference the area’s history of aeronautical manufacturing.

Process

Each prefabricated frame included registrations to connect to adjacent frames at precisely controlled angles. The frames also included CNC-punched fastener holes that aligned with lasercut holes on the aluminum finish panels for precise placement. The entire frame and finish were installed with 1/16” tolerance in just 3 days on site.
