Dynamo Ribbon (ADSK Installation 1)

The Dynamo Ribbon at Autodesk University was a celebration of Autodesk’s mission to Make Anything. The Ribbon was composed of a single, complex surface that blended a bar, a wall, an arch, and a bench, and the eye-catching installation served as the centerpiece of the conference’s Architecture expo.

Process

As a resident at the Autodesk Technology Center in Boston, STUD-IO developed the “Triangle Strategy” that allows designers to “build anything” (specifically, any doubly curved surface) with CNC roll-formed steel studs. Built entirely in 3 days, the Dynamo Ribbon takes advantage of this system to enable the efficient and precise realization of the complex design geometry.
